Many home shoppers will say . . . that they might like to find a "fixer-upper" and get some "sweat equity" but when it really comes down to it, most buyers actually want to buy a "turn-key" home, and they are willing to pay a little more for it.
IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW . . . THATS HOW WE MAKE MONEY!!!
I have found ways to make two or three dollars for every one dollar spent. I can't show you every trick in the book right here but you can learn even more tips from my books, CDs and DVDs (See Products page). This exterior renovation turned a dated grey Victorian into a modern Ranch-style. We used stained cedar planks to wrap the posts and rails and the home got a warm beige paint with rich chocolate trim. The shrubs and trees were trimmed back and the flower beds got a new layer of bark.

The garage was monochromatic and blah! We used the same Sherwin Williams exterior paint we chose for the house on the garage and trim. For the carriage-house door look we used the "whole wheat" house color as a base and a cedar color exterior paint to faux a wood grain look. (Details on the VIDEO PAGE) The handles and hinges were Stanley products from Home Depot. The lighting was a Portfolio brand from Lowe's.

This Kitchen makeover created a domestic dream out of a dated disaster. We re-finished the cabinets in black satin enamel and scuffed all the edges to create a rustic look. New satin nickel knobs and drawer pulls came from Lowe's. The granite was installed by a local company and the old, white appliances were replaced with Kitchen Aid stainless steel. The back splash was done with 4" tumbled travertine and the Brazillian cherry floor from Carpet Giant was a big improvement over the old laminate. The focal point is the custom mahogany range hood. I have made 3 of these now, using my own design and materials. The total cost for the hood was about 260 bucks but it looks like a product you would pay $2500 for at a cabinet shop. I reveal my secrets in my Remodeling DVD on the products page.

This exterior renovation created great curb appeal with a focus on xeroscaping and E-Z maintenence! These were important issues as this area has high water prices and caters to 2nd home buyers. We also spruced up the front porch and added a few decorator items. -A simple but effective solution and the home sold in just 4 days for full asking price! It didn't cost much but after shoveling 16 tons of rock and bark, the hot tub sure felt good!
TOTAL COST: $550

This doesn't even look like the same place but trust me, it is! We gutted this 1300sq ft. condo to the walls and did a full, cosmetic renovation. Every surface and fixture was changed, painted, re-covered, or replaced. The cabinets are a medium stain rustic Alder from Lowe's. In some Lowe's locations they are a stock item! I installed the pre-fabricated granite counters which only cost about $1,200. The 16" slate floor tiles really added color and richness. The light fixtures, knobs and faucet also came from Lowe's. The black Kitchen Aid appliances were purchased at Sears and added great contrast to the warm wood.
TOTAL COST: $8,000
TOTAL TIME for the KITCHEN: Three weeks

This bathroom was clean but funky and old! We re-finished the cabinet and added slate floors, a travertine tub surround, pre-fab granite counter, and a new jetted tub (Home Depot) in place of that weird fiberglass spaceship to the left. The faucets came from Lowe's and the snazzy decor and towels came from ROSS.

The outside of this taxi-yellow house just needed some love and tenderness in the form of beige paint, cream trim, weed elimination and some bark. All the neighbors were very stoked with the changes and the home sold the first day it was listed!

This kitchen was dark, ugly, old and had a lame design. We added cabinet storage space and seriously upgraded the image. Cabinets are stock rustic alder from Lowe's. Granite prefab cost $1,200 with some left over for a bathroom.

This boring kitchen didn't stand out from the crowd in this condo complex. In one weekend we re-finished the cabinets in burgundy lacquer, re-tiled the floor, added Granite prefab counters and black appliances.
